A major draw to Herefordshire is the opportunity to canoe on one of the most picturesque rivers in the UK. As a natural resource, the river supports many activities, including canoeing, kayaking, rowing, rafting and paddle boarding.
With limited obstructions like weirs and dams, and access to so much natural beauty, the river is popular with canoeists who take advantage of over 133km of the river.
In the upper River Wye, the most popular place to start is at Hay-on-Wye.
For years, our campsite has been one of the main exit points, and is ideally situated a days paddling down river from Hay-on-Wye. For adventurers that want more than a day on the river, our site location is perfectly positioned between Hay-on-Wye and Hereford. This allows for a second day of paddling, which gets you nicely to Hereford.
As a result, Preston Campsite is a perfect location to base yourself. Leave your vehicles and kit with us, knowing that when you are done with your day of river fun, that you have a base to come back to and rest.
With direct access to the river, Preston Campsite is ideal for Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, as well as canoe enthusiasts.
There are several canoe hire companies that run daily pick up and drop off services on the local stretch of the river. When talking to them, mention that you are based at Preston Campsite, to sort out logistics.
